DATING THE UNIVERSE
Missi RasmussenOne tiny string
reaches out to another
smaller than the nostril
of the ant
that never inhaled anything
Some annihilate others
in a Big Black dance
as dramatic as a second
as chaotic as a theory
Billions of years later
as if it were yesterday,
one small bird with green and blue
nests in a bar-be-cue grill
in a "backyard" in Kansas
in both April and May
Fibonacci saw this in a graph.
The bird prepares to meet
her perfect mate
We loom against the edge
of the balloon
wanting to rush, yet
wanting so much more than this
mathematical light. |
VANISHED HOPE
Michael Wells
Yesterday is gone.
It didn't linger and I so wish it had.
I wanted it to.
Hoped, but no care was given to my whim.
I lost something with it.
Like an anchor tied to my dream,
yesterday sank from view over the bow.
It is murky there where it had gone.
My hand outstretched and fingers trembling,
it resides lost beyond my reach.
I see a plop of tear rain into the water below.
A circle of rings plots its impact.
It too is gone.
Like my dream.
Like yesterday.
