Pennsylvania Poetry Society

History

The Pennsylvania Poetry Society was founded on October 21, 1949, under the auspices of the Pennsylvania Folklore Society by Colonel Henry W. Shoemaker and his sister, Blanche Shoemaker Wagstaff.

The Pennsylvania Poetry Society is a member of the National Federation of State Poetry Societies (NFSPS). The Pennsylvania Poetry Society is one of the ten charter-member states of NFSPS. In June 1960, the NFSPS Constitution was adopted in Philadelphia, PA. The Pennsylvania Poetry Society has hosted the annual convention of NFSPS several times: 1960 in Philadelphia, and 2005 in Harrisburg. Historical records of the Pennsylvania Poetry Society can be found and researched at the State Archives Building in Harrisburg, PA.
